Happy New Year! A new Calendar Year starts and as we consider our New Year’s resolutions you may want to consider your emotional health, as much as your physical and material well-being. By all means start a membership at the gym, or save for that special occasion, but also take a moment to consider your most intimate life goals. As most know an accurate Horoscope reading requires accurate birth details – date, place and TIME of birth. So what happens when you do not know your TIME of Birth?
The first step is to exhaust all possibilities ask a living relative, search for baby records, phone the hospital or phone the local library if your hospital has since closed. Many people are surprised to know that hospitals will provide a time of birth if requested. Some charge a small fee for the service and take two to three weeks to deliver the results. Nevertheless this is a vital service for those wanting an accurate Astrological reading.

If you still can’t discover your time of birth then you may like to partake in a special process called “Rectification”. This is a complex process undertaken by a professional Astrologer. During this process the Astrologer will ask you for a Calendar of Life Events, which include major life events, timed as closely as possible to a day. Once you have a “Rectified” chart by a qualified astrologer then you are able to start your astrological journey.

The Sun and the planet Venus are currently in the playful sign of Leo and it seems appropriate to write about dating. Romance is linked with Venus and Leos are amongst the most playful and romantic of all of us. Not just those with Leo Sun signs, but also those with Leo Moons, Venus in the sign of Leo etc.

Chain Emails

Chain emails seem to come in all shapes and sizes. Some are quite beautiful, sharing uplifting thoughts and momentarily sprinkling spiritual sparkles in our lives. Others are fun and funny, bringing a smile to our lips. We now take for granted the fact some of our friends are more inclined to send these “chain emails” through on a regular basis. The messages are welcome, but not for me “the insidious soul sneaker" endings. Beautiful emails are sent with positive sentiments and images and then the final line brings us down with a bang. The final line depletes our energy in a way that few correspondences (other than bills and legal letters) can do. “Pass this on to X number of friends and you will experience x number of rewards. Fail to pass this on and you will experience X amount of misfortune”. The words may not be exact but you get the gist and you know the type of emails that I am referring to.

These emails are only a continuum because someone has forwarded them and failed to delete the “warning at the end”. In other words, someone has not wanted to take a chance on “failing” to send them on. Why?

The reason, I believe, is that we have still not learnt to claim our own spiritual strength. We still hand over “ownership” of our soul to an outside entity. It doesn’t matter which God we worship, or what religion we do or do not follow. All roads lead to God. What I am talking about is the fact that there is a fine line between superstition and spirituality. Spirituality is no mealy-mouthed weak path. Again, no matter what our belief system, the spiritual path is one that demands strength, decisiveness, accountability and purpose. The moment that we succumb to superstition we weaken our own spiritual purpose.

This is why I call these types of emails “soul sneakers” Each time we succumb to the temptation to avoid a perceived wrath of the Gods we give away another little bit of our personal spiritual integrity. After all, we justify to ourselves – “what is the harm in forwarding it to X number of people”? The harm is that we are MORE likely to weaken our good fortune by forwarding any type of email than if we did not? As the current Eclipse cycle asks that we let go of some personal in order to benefit the whole, perhaps we could let go of the personal fear (no matter how slight or small) of incurring ill fortune. So courage mon brave – delete the emails OR if you think that the message is truly a gift then delete the end warning and send it freely, with love and blessings to whomever you want – as many of as few of your friends as you want. Then the message really gets across.

Taurus and Beauty

As a number of the planets move into the sign of Taurus at the end of this month we are all reminded to seek “beauty” in our lives. The Zodiac Sign is often associated with traits such as reliability, practicality and solidity. However, this Sign is also linked with Venus and is very much about “beauty”.

When speaking of beauty in a worldly way, we refer to fashion, cosmetics, models, and other such glamourous attractions. However, true beauty shines from within. Someone, or something, that is truly beautiful portrays its authentic self. When someone or something is accepting of, and radiating the truth then it is truly beautiful. We have only to think of Steve Irwin, ‘The Crocodile Hunter’, who passionately showed the world the beauty of the gnarly, fierce and threatening crocodile. He did this by revealing the authentic nature of the crocodile and how these awesome creatures fit into the wondrous natural world.

Hence as some of the planets align in Taurus we are all asked to reflect on our true natures. What is truly beautiful in our lives, how can we see the beauty in others and how can we express our authentic selves in a way that is pragmatic and yet tolerant of others? Relocation and Astrology

At the moment your professional life is stable. You are reaping the rewards from past efforts and building opportunities for the future. As such it is time to put your personal life in order. Once again home and family are highlighted. You need to focus on the foundations of your life. You may also like to start planning new creative projects, enjoying the flow of new ideas without the pressure of making firm decisions or plans just yet.

Once again ideas, plans and communications are highlighted. If you have not already done so, then it is time to make some decisions regarding contracts, plans, projects and intellectual pursuits. Whereas last month the ideas flowed, this month you need to make some decisions if you have not already done so. There are many options and you will have the opportunity to change your mind if you want to, but take the plunge and commit to a course of action. Who knows where it will take you?

Pisces
On the whole you have a positive attitude this month and may be offered opportunities to learn new skills. It is important that the choices that you make this month boost your self-esteem, and therefore also your income. Believe it or not the two are linked. Aries and Rash Decisions

Currently five planets reside in the Zodiac Sign of Aries including Uranus and Mars. This is a potent combination for new beginnings and all things positive, but it is also a dangerous combo. Mercury, the planet of communications, contracts and connection is also Retrograde, which adds to this cosmic cocktail.

This may seem like a strange Blog – not so positive – but I am somewhat concerned by the number of clients who seem to be going through really tough times and who may be considering rash action.

This combination of planets is likely to stir unexpected thoughts and memories, bring forth unresolved hurt feelings and then propel us to find a means of escape. Right now is not the time for rash decisions or action, but rather for consideration of the consequences. New beginnings can be welcomed, but these should be contemplated right now. Make plans by all means but do not carry them out unless you are sure of your ground and of your higher purpose.

It may also lead to feelings of isolation. As the saying goes – “this too shall pass”. If you are feeling isolated, or know of anyone feeling isolated, turn to meditation, prayer, uplifting reading material and understanding friends. Generally speaking Librans and Cancerians are wonderfully supportive.

Aries rules initiation. The process of initiation is not always easy, but it is ultimately rewarding. So now is the time to seek spiritual renewal, deeper meaning in life and keep a firm focus on the light at the end of the tunnel.

Why is it that browsing in book stores is so satisfying? Is it just me? Of course the electronic world of computers, speedy internet connections, whizz bang mobile phones etc is fun and slightly addictive but it does not satisfy the senses in the way that books do. Why is that?

Browzing through book stores, touching the books, making a choice and taking time is all so imminently satisfying. Are books a form of “slow information” as opposed to the quick fix of electronic connections – a bit like slow food is to fast food? For me, yes.

Imagine a world without books, without book stores, with only on-line choices? How strange that would be? Browzing through shelves of books in a book store feeds my soul. New books are exciting, but second hand shops are more so. It is hard to describe the thrill that is felt when entering an olde-worlde book shop with all of its sights and smells. Yes, this activity certainly does nurture something deep within me. I think that I am not the only one. Why? Perhaps it doesn’t matter why. Perhaps the important thing to note is that this activity feeds the soul. Feeding our souls is something that needs to be encouraged on a daily basis.

So take a moment today to reflect on what activity is deeply satisfying to you, and more importantly mark some time in your busy schedule to feed your soul.

Today I took off to travel by car to Melbourne, one of my favourite pastimes. Does anyone else enjoy the spontaneity of the open road? In Australia we have the privilege of miles and miles of space, freedom and the sheer joy of journeying without traffic constrictions.

As I journeyed I listed to a CD by one of my favourite speakers and writers - Marianne Williamson. She was talking about "the yoke of the world". She was encouraging her audience to throw off the "yoke of the world" in order to experience the exhilaration of the spiritual realms. It struck me how right she was when she said that sponteneity was lost somewhere along the path from childhood to adulthood.

When did spontaneity become the privilege of children alone? A burp, so cute in a by, is considered quite a faux pas in an adult. Tantrums are tolerated as a necessary part of toddlerhood and yet are definitely not seen as part of the emotional life of a mature person. Skipping, dancing or singing in a crowded shopping centre would be delightful in a small child, and yet considered certifiable in an adult.

It is no wonder we talk so frequently of stress, struggle and hardship. The responsibility of being an adult weighs heavily when we consider how many "shoulds" and "should nots" are involved. As I was enjoying the freedom and spontaneity of the open road I realised that we all need to take time out, to stop being God's police on Earth and to spend a little time rediscovering the freedom of knowing that we are loved exactly the way we are. It is time for us all to consider the freedom of unconditional self-love and the excitement of being conduits of God's love, compassion and (zippity doo dah) LOVE!

Eclipses are most potent for those who have a particular planet or special astrological point at the exact degree concerned i.e. in this case 29 degrees of Gemini. However, there is always a message for all of us.

2010 is about letting go of selfish pursuits in order to focus on how we can be of benefit to the community at large. Ignoring those Warning Signs

Television news is broadcasting alarming scenes of devastation in the Gulf of Mexico as the BP oil fills and destroys the waters, and all that lives in it. A well-known current affair program reported on the fact that the spill started with one person's botched job on a safety mechanism on a pipe deep under the water. Warnings were given to the company running the oil rig and a temporary shut-down was discussed and overridden by a profit-hungry BP. The disaster that has followed has eaten up more profits than ever would have been lost through a temporary shutdown and nothing justifies the devastation that has followed.

Why such doom and gloom? It reminded me of the subconscious warnings that we all ignore, the little jobs that we put off until tomorrow, seemingly insignficant, but with possible important consequences. In BP's case there was a conscious choice to ignore warnings. In our own busy lives, it is often a subconscious reaction. There are the bills that don't get paid on time, the chores that are left incomplete and the phone calls that are postponed. Sometimes there are also larger issues at stake - the niggling pain that is our body's warning that something is wrong is ignored until we have more time or a strange noise from a car engine is disregarded as not necessarily dangerous. The Angels try to watch over us but the noise of our lives, and our thoughts, drowns out their messages.

If we are in tune with the deeper level of our lives - the subconscious, our souls, Angels, Guides or other such esoteric forms of communication - then the opposite can be true. We take a right turn just at the right time avoiding a delay or accident, we make the phone call and discover a friend in need, or we see the doctor and nip a potentially serious illness in the bud.

The difference between listening and not listening is sometimes as simple as the fact that we feel overwhelmed. Astrology can help us formulate a plan, work out the timing of decisions and hence feel less overwhelmed. It can also help us to see the signposts along the way, the symbolic ones that strive to be heard or seen when we are not distracted by the paraphernalia of modern society - the television, computer, radio etc. Sometimes a question asked, or an important chore that is needed to be carried out, can literally be on a billboard in big letters. However, often it is also a still, small voice. Either way listening is the key. If only BP had listened to the warnings.

It's All in the Timing

As the local Adelaide Theatre Guide (ATG) prepares for their annual grand nosh-up and Awards night in August I was thinking about theatre and the stars and timing.

When writing reviews for the ATG I noticed that so many directors and actors seemed to get it right with the timing, and some got it very wrong. Like life, much of the success (even the choice of when to do a particular show) was all in the timing. Some of us get it right and others of us get it - well not so much wrong but more as if we drove off in the wrong direction and have to get back into the flow.

I often think of the air traffic over Heathrow Airport. Once when travelling to the UK I was caught in one of those holding patterns. Instead of flying straight to my destination something stopped me/us in mid-air, mid-transit and round and round we went in circles. Life is sometimes like that. "Aha I have been here and done this before, I have seen that emotion, known that person, understood that situation. Why am I back here again"

For me, this is where astrology helps. Sometimes our sense of timing is spot-on, we fly through our work and play with joy. Decisions are easy and fast and we are happy with our choices. Other times we wonder where we went wrong. I saw a post on Facebook today. The person said "Sometimes I just want to scream at the WORLD!!!!!" I guess that person is railing against the timing of an event, or the consequence of a personal choice, or perhaps the effect of someone else's choice.

When momentous decisions face us it is easy to hesitate, ponder, wonder about which is the right path. When we are overwhelmed it is also not surprising that we find it difficult to find our way forward.

Something I read really helped. The article advised...

When feeling overwhelmed, make a list of priorities and then delegate the ones that are not fun.

This then frees us up to get back on track, to re-discover the joys in our lives and to then make the appropriate decisions.

Astrology can also help. A client recently wrote and thanked me for helping her with a consultation. She said that it had really helped her work out the timing of decisions that she needs to make.

With the planet Uranus transiting into the sign of Aries, the time is generally right to consider new paths. The exact timing comes down to individual birth charts.
